Not so much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div align=\"middle\"><figure><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pvdCTR7mb5s\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The internet in Goa famously sucks<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve lost count of the number of times I\u2019ve been to a place and tried to get online only to find that the Wifi doesn\u2019t work or is so slow that it\u2019s completely unusable\u201d says Anna from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.global-gallivanting.com\/reality-digital-nomad-goa-india\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Global Gallivanting<\/a>, \u201cAnd then there\u2019s the frequent power cuts which mean that even a good connection can sometimes be off for hours each day\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Digital nomads need little more than a laptop and stable internet connection to carry out their work, which up until now, Goa has been unable to deliver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But according to a post published just yesterday in the Facebook group <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/DigitalNomadsAroundTheWorld\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Digital Nomads Around the World<\/a>, all of that might be about to change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-ta-image wp-block-image alignnone wp-image-5434 size-full\"><ta><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/extremenomads.life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/goa-india-2.jpg\" alt=\"goa-digital-nomad-destination-alexir-turenkov\" class=\"wp-image-5434\" srcset=\"https:\/\/extremenomads.life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/goa-india-2.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/extremenomads.life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/goa-india-2-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/ta><figcaption>Goa &#8211; by Alexir Turenkov<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Goa is set to become Asia\u2019s newest digital nomad destination<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The post detailed a meeting that recently took place with \u201csomeone high up in the government\u201d in Goa. It seems the local government is spearheading plans to develop Goa&#8217;s potential as a digital nomad destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The development program would see Goa gain fast internet connections (50 Mbps, allegedly), electric bikes and public charging stations, digital nomad friendly homestays, dedicated safety measures, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And it doesn\u2019t end there:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They also propose an inspection process that would allow local businesses (cafes and such) to be rated on a scale of digital nomad friendliness according to factors like internet speeds, plug access, and available work space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-ta-image wp-block-image alignnone wp-image-5435 size-full\"><ta><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/extremenomads.life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/goa-india-3.jpg\" alt=\"goa-digital-nomad-destination-alexir-turenkow\" class=\"wp-image-5435\" srcset=\"https:\/\/extremenomads.life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/goa-india-3.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/extremenomads.life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/goa-india-3-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/ta><figcaption>Goa &#8211; by Alexir Turenkov<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">So, what does the digital nomad community think of these plans?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The response to the news of Goa\u2019s digital nomad developments has been mixed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While some are outwardly excited about the prospect of being able to enjoy life on Goa\u2019s beautiful beaches while still having the facilities needed to carry out their work, others have voiced concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI like Goa [a] lot and have been visiting for over 20 years. I HATE this idea! The main attraction of Goa is that it is NOT smartified\u201d wrote Alyson Long of <a href=\"https:\/\/worldtravelfamily.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">World Travel Family<\/a>, \u201cI go to Goa because it&#8217;s Goa, not somewhere trying to be somewhere else\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the community have aired fears that the project might be financially unsustainable, the outcome of which could see the whole thing written off as little more than an expensive experiment at best, and at worst- well, just take a look at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chiangmaicitylife.com\/citylife-articles\/something-for-nothing-the-changing-face-of-chiang-mais-digital-nomad-scene\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">what some people have to say about Chiang Mai<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Others have posed the theory that even if the project \u201csucceeds\u201d by official standards, it might see the state morph into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/cities\/2018\/mar\/27\/double-trouble-how-big-cities-are-gentrifying-their-neighbours\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">gentrified<\/a> and elitist \u2018digital nomad bubble\u2019 that excludes the local community and creates an unpleasant \u201cthem vs us\u201d scenario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If it\u2019s any reassurance, it sounds like these matters are at the forefront of the talks in Goa and it would appear that the guys in the boardroom have laid down some deal breakers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What will it look like if Goa becomes a digital nomad destination?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the social media post that reported on the meeting, the parties involved are not interested in setting up \u201cpretentious\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/what-is-co-living-2017-2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">coliving<\/a> projects or anything of that sort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their main goal?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To lift up the small, local businesses that are already operating in Goa so that they can meet the necessary requirements and reap the benefits of the new economic injection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe plan is that the [additional] economic stimulus from this project goes into the local family run small businesses\u201d said Jeremy Noronha of Think Travel Lift Grow, who was in attendance at the meeting, \u201cinstead of a large unemotional cooperation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Find the best hotels in Goa with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dpbolvw.net\/click-8884358-11552042?sid=goa-digital-nomad-destination&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.tripadvisor.com%2FHotels-g1936425-Morjim_North_Goa_District_Goa-Hotels.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">HotelsCombined.com<\/a>!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><small><em>Disclosure: This page contains affiliate links to hotel booking platforms, meaning that at no additional cost to you, we may earn a commission of final bookings.
