In 2009 kwam er een einde aan een 26 jaar durende burgeroorlog in Sri Lanka. De hele natie slaakte een zucht van verlichting, en eindelijk opende dit prachtige druppelvormige eiland zich weer voor de rest van de wereld. Sindsdien is het hele land in een constante staat van groei geweest. De skyline van Colombo, de hoofdstad van Sri Lanka, schiet de lucht in terwijl de ene na de andere snelle ontwikkeling op gang komt. De levendige straten van Kandy en Anuradhapura stromen snel vol met toeristen. Maar buiten de stedelijke mekka's, trekt Sri Lanka's verwarde groene jungle, glooiende heuvels, en door branding gewassen kusten een ander soort reiziger. Wie is Nazareno Tubaro?

Hij is een Argentijnse tatoeagemeester die uitblinkt in een unieke stijl die zwart werk wordt genoemd, een stijl die zo oud is als het tatoeëren zelf, waarbij het opgevulde zwarte gedeelte van het stuk veel meer aanwezig is dan de lege ruimte, een beetje zoals een negatief beeld.

In deze stijl maakt Nazareno golven met een liefde voor detail, beweging en feilloze overgangen. Hij begon zijn carrière in 1996 en opende in 2009 zijn eigen studio in Buenos Aires. U kunt zijn website bezoeken op nazareno-tubaro.com.
