Gerade im Jahr 2009 sah Sri Lanka das Ende eines brutalen, 26 Jahre andauernden Bürgerkriegs. Die ganze Nation atmete auf, und endlich öffnete sich diese wunderschöne, tropfenförmige Insel wieder dem Rest der Welt. Seitdem befindet sich das ganze Land in einem ständigen Wachstum. Die Skyline von Colombo, der Hauptstadt Sri Lankas, schießt in den Himmel, während eine rasante Entwicklung nach der anderen ihren Lauf nimmt. Die belebten Straßen von Kandy und Anuradhapura füllen sich schnell mit Touristen. Aber außerhalb der städtischen Mekkas ziehen Sri Lankas verworrener grüner Dschungel, sanfte Hügel und von der Brandung umspülte Küsten eine andere Art von Reisenden an.
