- Sri Lanka Sri Lanka heeft in de loop der jaren vele namen gekend, maar de naam die het land misschien het best omschrijft is de oude Perzische naam Serendib, wat "serendipiteit" betekent. In 2009 kwam er een einde aan een 26 jaar durende burgeroorlog in Sri Lanka. De hele natie slaakte een zucht van verlichting, en eindelijk opende dit prachtige druppelvormige eiland zich weer voor de rest van de wereld. Sindsdien is het hele land in een constante staat van groei geweest. De skyline van Colombo, de hoofdstad van Sri Lanka, schiet de lucht in terwijl de ene na de andere snelle ontwikkeling op gang komt. De levendige straten van Kandy en Anuradhapura stromen snel vol met toeristen. Maar buiten de stedelijke mekka's, trekt Sri Lanka's verwarde groene jungle, glooiende heuvels, en door branding gewassen kusten een ander soort reiziger. Extreme nomaden met een brandwond voor openluchtavontuur hebben lang geweten de echte charme van Sri Lanka niet iets is u in de stad zult vinden. U vindt het in de boter vlakke lagunes, sterke wind, en barreling branding. U vindt het in de desolate eilanden, de verborgen watervallen, en de mysterieuze bergtempels.
