Innersoles for your ski boots may be something you initially overlook when packing or preparing for your next ski trip.

Your ski or snowboard boots are usually built with proper support and comfort in mind and are made to provide all the foot care you need. But just as every rider is different, so is every foot.

Feet come in all shapes and sizes. Your foot’s width, length, and arch are all elements that could make ski and snowboard insoles a necessary addition to your ski trip suitcase.

If you have a foot shape that doesn’t quite work with your new ski boot, you can end up suffering from foot fatigue very quickly, resulting in cramps and even worse performance from your equipment.

Innersoles can make up for whatever foot support your ski and snowboard boots may not quite be providing. They can also help with cold feet, supplying heated insoles and extra insulation against the extra cold days.

Even if you don’t need the extra arch support or padding, innersoles can provide a wonderfully comfortable ride.

Top Insoles For Ski or Snowboard Boots

I have worn a lot of innersoles over my years skiing on the slopes. I like to be out there on the hill from the first lift to the last call, making the most of every day, and this can get seriously taxing on the arch of my feet and the rest of my legs.

A pair of good insoles help with shock absorption, cold weather, and fatigue. I have found a selection of great insoles for you to take a look at and maybe take along with you next time you tear up the slopes.

This isn’t an uncommon issue but is easily remedied with these high-profile, high-volume insoles. They are designed as a solution not only to provide extra support but also to help you achieve a great fit.

The Superfeet insoles are made of foam designed to be trimmed down to the size of any ski boot insoles. The stabilizer cap keeps the structure and stability of the insole no matter what shape it has been cut to.

These insoles are made to provide support to the feet with an extra deep heel cup that holds the foot securely into the ski or snowboard insoles. It provides support for high arches and assists in shock absorption, absorbing the rattles and shakes of a day on the mountain.

These well-thought-out insoles are made to improve balance, edge control, and comfort in your ski and snowboard boots. They are the perfect addition to a ski boot if you’re planning to really rip up the slopes and need pinpoint precision from your ski boot insoles.

The EdgePro was designed by Björn Gustafsson after he had to end his career as a world junior triathlon champion due to an injury. He has made them with the prevention of further injury, control, and function in mind. He has used his years of world-leading expertise in his ski boots to help you out on the slopes.

These are insole designed for people over the weight of 200 lbs. Anyone carrying extra weight knows how much standing on a hard surface in any kind of work or ski boot can begin to become painful in the lower back, heel, and legs. These provide the support needed to give your body a rest via cleverly designed footbeds.

Heavier people need a bit of extra foam padding in the footbed to provide comfort when on their feet. Durable materials have to be able to withstand the extra weight. High-quality layers in these boot insoles focus on keeping feet supported.

These are great for skiers who may be putting their feet under excessive strain. Although they are designed with people 200 lbs and up in mind, the pressure of skiing can often equate to close to that.

Big jumps, hard turns, and serious speed push your weight right down into a boot. If you find your feet aching after a day in the park or the piste, these may be just what you need.

Deep heel cups help with motion control whilst moving around. The heel is supported and held in a particular position to ensure you walk in an orthopedic way. The insoles come with arch support down the sides, which relieves leg and foot muscle fatigue.

If you have ever worn ski boots in the intense cold of midwinter, you understand the necessity of doing everything you can to keep your feet warm and the blood flow as good as possible.

How to Buy The Correct Insoles For Your Ski Boots

I personally wear innersoles in much more than just my ski boots. I often wear them in my day-to-day shoes and work boots.

I don’t wear them due to the need for extra support, I just find some good insoles that help my shoes fit perfectly and provide maximum comfort. When I’m on my feet a lot, the extra cushion stops me from getting uncomfortable.

Knowing what to look for when shopping for your first pair of insoles can be a little confusing. Even in the short selection of reviewed insoles we have here, there are a lot of different types, styles, and uses for each one.

Knowing what feature you’re looking for before you start shopping will help you save time and money and ensure you end up with the best ski boot insoles for you.

Keeping Your Feet Warm

If you have bought good ski socks and boots already, then you should already have some good insulation around your feet, but sometimes even this isn’t quite enough. Insoles can provide that little extra bit of insulation against the cold.

Look for materials that have a thick foam layer and offer good padding around the base. Well-designed insoles will keep the heat of your feet in whilst still being breathable.

Cambrelle Covers

These are simple ways to mount your heating elements to the inside of your ski boot. The single side of adhesive sticks to your insole and is made to cover both the cable and the heating element inside the boot to reduce wear and tear and keep your feet in comfort.

They sit on the footbeds of your ski boots and work alongside your current insoles as an extra defense against cold days. They can also go in regular shoes for when you’re just out and about in the resort.

Shock Absorption

Again, this is something that should be taken care of with your boots and gear, but every so often, it is necessary to get that little extra bit of help from your ski boot insoles. A good-quality insole will provide support throughout the footbeds.

Durable foam and gel layers dissipate shock through the materials to take away the shakes and socks of mountain sports. Landing big jumps should feel like dropping into nice fluffy pillows with a high-quality pair of insoles.

Heating Elements

We have looked at two insoles with heating elements built in. There is no doubt they are an absolute godsend inside any pair of ski boot insoles. They ensure you don’t suffer from numb and uncomfortable feet throughout the day on the slopes.

The warming foam across the footbed can keep you toasty even when sitting on ski lifts or waiting for a run.

Heated insoles often sacrifice actual arch and heel support for the element of comfort. If you are looking for something that will hold in your heel or facilitate your flat feet, then it may be best to look for something with orthopedic designs in mind.

Customizable Size

Making sure your insole fits your ski boots is important. If it is too long or short, it won’t provide the support it was actually designed to give.

Most ski insoles actually have a toe that can be trimmed down to size so they can become the perfect fit. By trimming the toe down, you can slip them into any size boot and enjoy the comfort of a great insole.

Budget

Like any bit of ski gear, insoles come in a huge range of prices depending on what you need from them. Personally, when I buy my gear, I usually make sure I am ready to spend a little more and get the quality that comes with it.

Skiing is an incredibly taxing sport, especially for the gear you bring with you. Cheaper insoles wear out quickly, in my experience, and you end up buying multiple pairs through a season.

Of course, if you’re only going for a week, this may be absolutely fine. No point in spending more than you need, but in my experience, I have had the best support longest from the pricier pairs. Check reviews though, sometimes, you can find an absolute gem for a bargain price.

A Few Last Thoughts From Me

Foot pain can be a real downer on a day. Tight boots, cold conditions, and worn-out insoles can be a recipe for foot cramps and an early visit back to your chalet before you’re finished ripping up the slopes.

It didn’t take me long to discover the joy of comfortable insoles, and now I wear them whenever I need to be on my feet for a long time, whether that’s standing at work or throwing flips in a ski park.

The best insoles provide the best support across the whole range of the mountain and can even improve control through your equipment. They are a great way to make ski boots more comfortable.

Spend a little time shopping around. Some of the more expensive insoles will even provide money-back guarantees if you’re not happy. It’s worth giving them a go just once, I guarantee you won’t regret it, and your feet will thank you at the end of the day.
